Wow-Worthy Elements from Kendra and Hank’s Holiday Party

Well that was fun! Last Friday’s episode of Celebrity Holiday Homes featured my holiday design of Kendra Wilkinson Baskett and Hank Baskett’s gorgeous California home. I was glad to share it with all of you.  In my sneak peek I was able to show you some of the gorgeous and unique items I found all over the country, now I want to tell you about the amazing businesses and vendors who lent a hand.

If you plan to host some holiday parties of your own this season, you might want to think about outsourcing a few of your party’s elements. Here are some Californian companies that I’d recommend again in a heartbeat! Check them out to see if they inspire you to find some great vendors in your hood that might help you to kick your party up a few notches.

Balloons

Maybe the most dramatic element of my design plan was the copper balloon ceiling. After dreaming up the idea, I just couldn’t stop thinking about it! Those high tray ceilings were just screaming for some sparkle and shine. So I called my friend Blanca at LA Balloon Events and she worked some serious magic.

Almost 200 shimmering copper balloons were arranged by hand to fill each tray perfectly. Before we floated them up, we attached just few twinkling snowflakes to each square. They hang down at varying heights politely asking everyone’s eyes to look up. The result was spectacular. Dressing a ceiling is a fantastic way to make a space you see every day seem special and calling in the balloon experts made it all possible.

Baked Goods

Kendra and Hank like to party, so I knew I had to deliver a glamorous and drool-worthy spread for their guests to enjoy. Since they’re also a fun couple with an adorable little son, I wanted the buffet to be playful. Jill’s Cake Creations stepped in and helped me do just that. They created this gorgeous cake made to look like a stack of gifts. They also created hilarious disco gingerbread men that had everyone laughing and smiling – exactly the mood I wanted to create. Their cupcakes were shaped like ornaments and their cake bites were divine.

Every single item they delivered complemented my design in some way. If you’re going to order food and/or desserts for any of your holiday parties, don’t be afraid to pick up the phone to discuss color palettes, themes and the general feel of the party you’re hosting. You’d be surprised what excellent businesses, like Jill’s Cake Creations, are able to come up with if you let them in on your plan.

Big Ticket Items

In a space as big as Kendra and Hank’s living room, scale is very important. This 6 foot tall nutcracker was a big, handsome conversation piece at the party. He fit in perfectly with the holiday décor, the theme and the colors I had chosen.

But let’s be real. Does anyone need to keep a 6’ nutcracker statue hanging around 365 days a year? Sounds like a Christmas storage nightmare to me. So I looked around Los Angeles and found our man here for rent. For a very affordable price, Mr. Nutcracker was able to join the party and now he won’t be overstaying his welcome. Delivery and pick up costs were included, so I never had to worry about moving him myself.

If you’re looking to add an element of surprise to your next party, you might want to look into party rental businesses near you. An impermanent piece of WOW can make your party extraordinary and will make for a great photo opp for all of your guests.

And stay tuned. Over the next week, I’ll be sharing some separate how-to videos so that you can create some of the elements from the show at your house. If you’re interested in taking a stab at the ornaments Kendra and I made, that show-stopping Disco Sign or some personalized salt dough gifts, check back here often. I’ll even give you the recipe for my blueberry champagne cocktails and the boozy shimmer shots.

Cheers!

I love the nutcracker! I would love to add him to my collection, but I hear you about the storage issue. I also loved the "Deck Your Halls With Disco Balls" sign. I assume that was a custom piece. How did you make it?

With each one of these homes I am always looking where I would store my Christmas decorations. I should probably thin them out. (maybe not)
